Thanks Bunty,
You have become as rare as the PFC these days.
The photo you have posted is perhaps that of a youngster because the crest is missing. Adult females sport more than "decent looks". The chestnut and black combo is arresting and the crest gives it a regal look.
Drivers in Kerala are crazy, drunk or not. Once I threatened to get out of the car if the driver doesn't slow down. But this new ruse of letting the better-half drive could be short-lived if the newspaper reports are anything to go by. Just a week back I saw that even in a conservative city like Chennai, the number of females are taking to the bottle are on the increase.
Instead of driving away drinking blues, men could be driving to the police station to bring their darlings home
Incidentally, I am told that Kerala consumes the maximum amount of liquor. A dubious distinction, what?!
The first awareness that should be developed is to curb population. Highly populous nations do precious nothing and sadly India ranks highest in this inaction. When educated couples don't bat an eyelid before having two children, we cannot expect the poor to have any kind of discipline. No amount of restrictions and calls to conserve environment will work unless the strain of numbers is eased first.
Good stuff Ranj. Would have loved to see the Ganesha without the tusks and keep it in my collection too. The two pups were great and so was Mona Lisa. Didn't like Teresa.
Natalie is Dechy's first name. She was a high-ranked player once upon a time. Did you miss the othe incident. Again, Ana was on the run and this sharp volley would have had Dechy leading 30-0 on Ana'a serve but unfortunately the surge to the net made her lose the cap and so the umpire called "let". Another act of God.
Years back, Becker hit a booming ground shot from well behind the base-line and the ball hit the post, ballooned into the air and fell behind a hopeless Malivai Washington who was in position to cut off the pass.
Swamy sleeping with a friend's wife was good one. Probably you weren't there when he went to Bhutan and was caught by the customs bringing a camera which he had not declared while going. He also did a good imitation of chicken and hen telling the world collectively to f..o...
Good fun read.
Beautifully written. I can see that this has come from the bottom of your heart. Take a bow sir, for the honest opinion.
Child labour is despicable. Make no mistake about it. But to take only this aspect in a poor economy and ban it is akin to killing a poisonous worm in Amazon rain forest. We have hundreds of ills in this country about which nobody does anything. You have correctly poured vitriol on one of the problems- population control or the lack of it.
Is making a woman walk five kilometers to fetch water is any more cruel than making a ten-year old work? Or making the poor stand five hours in a PDS retail outlet for a meagre three litres of kerosene per month any better than to employ a 12 year old to look after the cows? The poor never look at the problem of more children as more mouths to feed but more hands to work. The few rupees the boy brings in, will keep the fire burning in the house for few more days.
Every child has a right to education but just look at the quality of education the Govt. provides to the poor. Pathetic, is the only word to describe it. The schools keep passing the children till they reach the 10th where despite the diluted standards, a vast majority fail because it is a public exam. Then what? Is it alright for them to start working as cleaners and scavengers and doing umpteen other menial jobs? That's a load of rubbish.
To apply Western standards to a country like India is wrong, terribly wrong.
The Black-eyed peas ( I had a good laugh)and Apple Pie are good. The flow of language and the underlying sarcasm and wit are interesting. One suggestion. Keep the number of lines in a poem constant. Otherwise it looks like prose broken to sound like poetry.
Keep writing.
I BELIEVE IN ANGELS
What is it that say? Something about known devils and unknown angels?
